Biography
Steve studied trumpet, piano, composition and orchestration at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Steve's orchestrations and compositions feature on numerous albums, television shows, advertising campaigns and films.
Album credits include orchestrating and conducting Robbie Williams' best selling album Swing When You're Winning and the acclaimed live recording Robbie Williams Live At The Albert Hall and The Robbie Williams TV Special. Recent album projects include Sarah Brightman with the LSO, Rock Swings for Paul Young, The Pet Shop Boys, Seal, Amaral, Tony Christie, Shirley Bassey & Paul Carrack.
Television credits include MD and arranger for the BBC's Children In Need, VE Day Concert 2005, The Olympic Torch Concert, The Children's Party at the Palace, ITV's 50 Years Of Television and Ant & Dec's Xmas Takeaway. He has also contributed arrangements to The Royal Variety Performance, Live 8, Stars In Their Eyes, Soapstar Superstar, Star For a Night, Reborn In The USA and Tina Turner's 60th Birthday.
Steve's theatrical credits include orchestrating the musical Daddy Cool at the Shaftsbury Theatre. He also orchestrated the Madness musical Our House at the Cambridge Theatre, and the hit musical collaboration between Queen and Ben Elton, We Will Rock You which has had 8 productions worldwide. He has also contributed arrangements for the last three Holiday On Ice tours. He is currently orchestrating the 2007 Disneyland Paris parade sequence.
Recent advertising campaigns include the award nominated Honda Choir, (in which he is also the featured conductor), M&S, Boots Summer, Lotto, Walkers, Morrisons, McDonalds, Supernoodles, Coca Cola, Capital Radio & Guinness.
He has contributed arrangements to films including Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet, Bridget Jones Diary, Teachers Pet, Spongebob Squarepants, Finding Nemo, Mona Lisa Smiles & 101 Dalmations 2.
Steve has performed with many artists including George Michael, Robbie Williams, Tom Jones, Sting, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, The Who, Ian Dury, Wet Wet Wet, Charlie Watts, Henry Mancini & Michael Nyman.
Steve has again been recording in LA with the Hollywood Film Chorale. Following the success of ?Honda Choir? and his Oscar performance of the composition 'Elements & Motion' (which recently received an EMMY Nomination for 'Outstanding Picture Editing for a Special') he was commissioned to write accompaniments for 12 short films celebrating great moments in basketball to be shown alongside ESPN?s coverage of the NBA finals. The recording was made at Capitol Records and the choir filmed at The Orpheum Theatre in downtown LA. You can see 2 of the movies under ?Televison?
Steve?s music for ?Victoria?s Empire? was well received and may be released as a recording in it?s own right.
He recently conducted the RPO at their sold-out Filmharmonic night at The Royal Albert Hall. He arranged his Disney scores into a 15 minute medley which featured a big band within the full symphony orchestra. He has also has been at Abbey Road conducting the London Symphony Orchestra recording his arrangements for Sarah Brightman?s forthcoming album.
Steve?s next projects include composing a film score for director Roger Christian, conducting Nigel Hitchcock?s compositions for saxophone, violin and orchestra at Abbey Road. Arranging and performing as part of the house band on the Princess Diana Memorial Concert and several new advertising campaigns.
Steve has won another award for Honda Choir, this time the prestigious D&DA yellow pencil award.
